Terrain: The first half of the marathon is on a hard-packed dirt/gravel road. At around mile 13 the course changes to pavement. Once you turn left at Pine Creek (off East River Road) the road changes to hard-packed dirt road for the last 1 mile of the course

Course Description: The first 18 miles is the majority of the 2300’ drop. Once you turn on East River Road, the course is relatively flat with a mostly gentle rollers and a few substantial ones. The last mile on Pine Creek is a 100’ net loss as you cross over the Yellowstone River then turn right to the finish line.
